Clever Disguise

One can find clever, inexpensive solutions to design dilemmas in unusual places.  Instead of removing this outside window in a  restaurant’s public restroom, it was disguised with a painting and then fitted with clear glass.  It gives the room something unexpected and  is more cheerful than the ordinary (sterile) bathroom surroundings.

Mirror Art

So why not carry the theme around the bathroom mirror as well!  Notice the paint colors are the opposite of the window.

And even though this window is on an inside wall and high  up on the wall, it too is deserving of artwork.

I love the colors of lime green and dark pink (or orange) together. If you need to tone down some pink in a girl’s room, add some green. The two colors are complementary. Sometimes it is just fun to have a space that has some unusual colors. A powder room, laundry room, or sunroom are places where people inhabit for a shorter time and thus can handle some bold color choices.

Furniture “Tweak”

This client called for a consultation because she wanted to complete the look of her great room by adding a window treatment. We accomplished that and so much more! She chose olive green silk (7 yds.) which she gracefully draped on a wooden rod and knotted on each end.
We suggested an additional change:  reorienting the furniture. The grouping is now angled slightly which incorporates the fireplace better. The most striking difference was made by reversing the sofa and the two chairs. Now the view from the foyer isn’t the back of a sofa but the more inviting look of the chairs with a table and candle in between.
Do you feel more drawn into this space by this simple change?

That was 'then'
That was ‘then’

This is 'now'
This is ‘now’
