Doors in Europe are so different from doors in America. First of all, European doors are so much older and therefore, show more wear. They sprout antique hardware and embellishments like strapping or nailheads. They are odd-sized and hard to replace. Some doors are doubled, one for entering and one for exiting. One door I saw even had bullet holes from World War II circled (see below). The French had placed a plaque above the door as to who was killed by the Gestapo and the date. They choose never to forget.

You never know what might be behind Door #1 or Door #2, but because the door itself is fascinating, you can’t help but imagine that the inside contents will be fascinating as well. Curb appeal is what gets people to the front door; curiosity is what gets people inside the front door. It’s always worthwhile to make your front door quite appealing. Place a wreath on the door as a nice welcome and invite people inside.
